"Rock us Catalina" ...in memory of Hans Trapp ;-)
Many legends tell of the fascinating inhabitants of castles and palaces, and the story of Catalina Barbara von Pongracz is no exception. She is known as “Rock us Catalina, show yourself to us again”, and her story is just as enchanting as that of the White Lady of Berwartstone, as Catalina is known in the Palatinate.Catalina spent her childhood as an orphan in Florence, near the famous House of Medici. She loved the sculptor Buonarotti, who became famous as Michelangelo, but Michelangelo had other plans in Rome and so Catalina went to the court of the King of Hungary and inherited rich estates, where she met Hans von Drodt, who took her to his castle Berwartstone. Hans and Catalina became a happy couple and had a child. Michelangelo was the proud father, but Hans was unhappy and set fire to the castle. Catalina, who had loved her life, jumped to her death with her child, and since this tragic story, the white woman has haunted the castle. Many have seen her again. If you visit Berwartstone, you might see her. Berwartstone, oh Berwartstone, “Rock us Catalina, show yourself to us again”.
Orphan in Florence, the stars shine bright,
In the shadow of the Medici, there I found my feeling.
A sculptor, a dream, Michelangelo my light,
But his love, it went away, left me alone.
Rock us Catalina, show yourself to us again,
Through the shadows of the past, I hear your path.
Rock us Catalina, hear the calls in the night,
Your spirit lingers on here, where love is kindled.
To the king's court I went, fate in my hand,
In Hungary I found Hans, his castle was my land.
A child born of dreams, of passion and pain,
But love was fleeting, the broken heart.
Rock us Catalina, show yourself to us again,
Through the shadows of the past, I hear your path.
Rock us Catalina, hear the calls in the night,
Your spirit lingers on here, where love is kindled.
Flames that eat the walls, a leap into the cold light,
With my child in my arms, hope shatters.
The white woman of Berwartstone, she walks in the night,
A spark of your love that burns forever.
Rock us Catalina, show yourself to us again,
Through the shadows of the past, I hear your path.
Rock us Catalina, hear the calls in the night,
Your spirit lingers on here, where love is kindled.
Oh, Berwartstone, your walls tell much,
Of love, death and longing, a never-ending game.
Rock us Catalina, your stories weave,
In the halls of the past, there you will live forever.
